New York City's Yammiest Ice Cream
We're both born and raised in Chinatown. Went to school here, that's how we met. And we saw, By that, Michael Liang means ice cream infused with Asian flavors, Some people describe our ube to taste And that ube is the big draw at Softswirve on Allen Street in Chinatown. The shop opened two months ago and even during the winter, it is busy. Customers delight in the purple. The purple one? Yeah, doesn'taste purple. Whatever that means, in fact, it's made with purple yam, popular in a Filipino dessert called Halo, which both Michael and his business partner, Jason Liu, love. We actually do use real yams for the ice cream. We go through about a box a day. And the result is an intoxicating shade of purple that looks terrific with toasted coconut or fruity pebbles.
