Awaken Coffee

Awaken Coffee was opened in downtown Knoxville in 2016 by the Awaken City Church. During the day, many locals come by to enjoy their assortment of coffee, tea and pastries. But on Sundays, Awaken Coffee opens its doors as Awaken Old City Church, a non-denominational fellowship where all are welcomed. My name is Adam Lutz and I'm the senior pastor of Awaken Old City. We're also the owners of Awaken Coffee. Instead of having a church that was only open a few hours a week, it was our idea to just be in a place where it was people non-stop and you could talk to people and you could get to know people, know what they believe and what they love and what they dis And so we started the coffee shop with full intentions of putting a church in the back, which we did on day one. And it's been a whole lot of fun just to meet people in the community and have them ask questions, what's in the back, what's it And so through that, we built a community here. It's always changing. It's a lot of professionals, a lot of people that live in the old city. It's a lot of people that go to school at Johnson, go to school at UT, go to school at Carson Newman. It's just a really safe place for people to make relationships, to do things outside of Sunday morning. We focus a lot on dinner groups and on things that happen throughout the week just to get together and play games and get to know each other. It's been a fun, almost two years now and we're still learning and still growing. Love being here in the old city.
