"Home of the legendary fish-shaped ice cream cones" -ZAGAT Taiyaki NYC has brought to you a unique fish-shaped Japanese waffle that blends perfectly in glorious harmony with the artisan flavors of soft serve.
Our story begins with part faith, part love, and part luck. With members from numerous Far East cities like Guangzhou, Taiwan, Mandalay, Haiphong, and Tokyo, only faith could have brought the family at Taiyaki NYC together to the city that never sleeps. While growing up as first/second-generation Asian Americans in New York, the Taiyaki NYC family had one love in common—embracing our heritage and identity through our love for travel and food. After many trips and adventures to the food “meccas” of the world—the streets of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, and Japan (and with a hint of luck)—we stumbled upon an idea that speaks the global dessert language of ice cream and waffles! With those three perfect ingredients—faith, love, and luck—Taiyaki NYC was born. At Taiyaki NYC, we work hard as a family to focus on quality and consistency in the products we provide to our community. Our ice cream and taiyaki waffles are made from the highest quality ingredients from socially responsible vendors and distributors. Our taiyaki waffles are made fresh on-site, and our soft serve ice cream is produced and churned in small batches to preserve the true integrity of how a real soft serve should taste. We strive to keep our customers happy and satisfied while leaving a minimal footprint on our planet. First established in the cultural melting pot of Chinatown, New York, Taiyaki NYC has since expanded to the arts district of Wynwood Miami, Florida, as Taiyaki NYC Miami. Our goal is to work with and to give back to the community the best we can. By doing so, we hope to build a community store that is deeply rooted in the neighbor we serve. We’re known for our fish-shaped Japanese waffle that is chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside; the textures and flavors blend perfectly in glorious harmony with the artisan flavors of soft serve ice cream. This Japanese fusion dessert shop just opened this fall and it's hella Instagram worthy. So let's check it out. We as a management team here at 7, we all love Asia. We love China and vice-Asia. We all love dessert. We love our culture that we represent so that when all those three things combine, we just want to bring this constant back. And we also had a passion for entrepreneurship, right? I myself love Shark Tank. I watch every episode of Shark Tank and we always had that spirit in us. So I myself just graduated from NYU. During my time there, I studied abroad in Shanghai and during my time there, during my four months there, I went all over Asia. I saw this fish everywhere but it was How does your shop seek to encourage the sustainability in this sense of community? So I myself grew up in Chinatown here. I lived here for There's a very sentimental feeling towards this community and the fact that I'm able to do it in my hometown, where I grew up, it's a very how do you think we can use food By doing stuff It's just important to me and my management team here to grow the Asian culture, grow Japanese culture. So one of my partner's wives is Japanese and her favorite dessert growing up was the Taiyaki. And she was a major part in us building the recipes and Would you say that social media has definitely been a huge advantage in you promoting your store? It's been super effective? Oh absolutely. In this day and age it's all about the phones, all about social media. The more that we understand it, the better small business we are. To wrap it up, do you have any personally recommended flavors or combinations? Absolutely. So one of our most popular flavors here is the Masha Black Sesame. It comes with custard and mochi and wafer. It's definitely very aesthetic looking and it tastes great as well. Awesome, thank you so much. Thank you. I got my Taiyaki. I ate a little bit of it already because it just looks so good. But I got this straight out of Japan and it has sesame, the matcha, soft serve, and a wafer, I can't pronounce what it is but it has a mochi and then it has a taiyaki which is the fish waffle cone. And then there's red bean filling inside. And the sesame soft serve and the matcha soft serve tastes really authentic. It's very creamy, the mochi is also very good. A little sweet but it's I can't wait to eat the red bean filling inside but I have to finish this part first. Delicious. Shout out to Jimmy for a really good interview. I would definitely recommend this place, it was really good. Come check it out at 118 Baxu Street between Chinatown and Little Italy. Thank you.
