I'm Phil Easter at Southern Homes and Gardens. We've cleaned up our landscapes. After a long, long winter, prepared soil for and planted new shrubs and perennials, perhaps a tree or two. Most of the annuals are in the ground and beginning to show some good color. But wait, there'still one important job to be done to make the rest of our s That job? Mulching our beds. Now, traditionally, we've used pine straw or shredded leaves to cover the ground around our plants. But let's look at a different approach to mulching, which is a messy, time-cons This is tech straw. It's a synthetic pine straw made of recycled rubber and plastic. The 9-10 inch needles are warranted to retain their great color for at least four years. And once installed, all we need to do is fluff it once a year to expose the good, fresh color of the underside. Now, un Applied to the correct depth will also help prevent evaporation. Now, it does not harbor or track mold, fungus, or insects, nor does it absorb chemicals. Tech straw is clean and easy to install. Simply rake out the old mulch. For best results, apply the tech straw to a depth of 3. 5 inches. Now, at this depth, one bale covers 40 square feet. For even better, longer-lasting results, treat the soil once with a pre-emergence and lay down a weed barrier. And then top with tech straw. Southern Homes and Gardens. Inspiration to live beautifully with less work and cost. Two great locations.
