Rising on the banks of the mighty Willamette River during the winter of 2009, the Water Avenue Coffee Company creates handcrafted coffees in Portland's Southeast Industrial district. Our roasting facility and retail spaces offer a toast to the working class industrial district we are located in. Our bar and 50 ft of counter seating was built with 100 year old reclaimed fir from just blocks away, and our large blue neon coffee sign glows all night long as a beacon to travelers on nearby I-5.
My name is Matt Milletto. I'm one of the owners here at Water Avenue Coffee. Water Avenue Coffee started four years ago here in the industrial east side of southeast Portland, Oregon. We're in our retail and roasting facility where we produce all the coffee that we sell to our wholesale accounts as well as have a coffee bar to act as our showcase for our coffees. Water Avenue, the name of our business, is a toast to the street we're on. This neighborhood has grown around us. There was very little in the sense of other businesses in this neighborhood when we got started, but in the last four years we're doing probably three times what our initial projections were and really that has been contributed to expansion and kind of development of this neighborhood. Portland, Oregon is truly, I feel, the epicenter of independent specialty coffee. Coffee has been just widely accepted as a truly specialty beverage to where many businesses in the last 10 plus 15 years have really been able to think a little bit outside the box because our cons Every business is constantly needing to improve and The community in Portland is un It's truly, I feel, a destination for coffee. A lot of our business comes from tourism from other countries or other states. We have hired and we always have people from cities
