A loyal customer is stepping forward to help save a Lafayette restaurant under pressure from the landlord. The owner of delicious Z's didn't want to stiff employees so they asked the building owner for leniency on rent. And what they got in return was a response from the landlord they weren't expecting. Denver 7's Lance Hernandez visited the staff at delicious Z's today who say we are open Colorado. So nice to see you. Matt and Laura Fletcher drove up from mon They swear by it. My recommendation would be the chicken and waffles. Delicious Z's owner, Zena Osborne, says it's customers She and her son Ira have been working hard for three years to make delicious Z's a success. It's been a struggle but were thinking, hey, this is great. Look at the progress we made and of course here came the pandemic. They had to lay off several employees kept two cooks to manage the takeout business, which is only about 38% of what their overall business had been faced with labor costs, food costs, taxes and rent. Zena had to make a tough choice. I decided I was going to pay my employees first. She wrote a letter to her landlord asking if she could pay her rent over the entire month instead of all at once. Didn't hear back from them. Eight days later, she received this letter in reply telling her she had to pay the entire rent by April 25th or face eviction. I cried and for me to cry that is I never cry ever. Her daughter set up a GoFundMe account. Loyal customers contributed more than $2,700. Others dropped off cash at the store. Others contributed via Venmo. She now has enough to pay rent and her employees. It really just kind of brings you to your knees to see all the locals and everything supporting us. We're getting a lot of support from all the people around here and all our family and friends. Zena and Ira hope to reopen as soon as Boulder County lifts the stay at home order. I asked if they'll be around for a while. I sure hope so. Lance Hernandez, Denver 7. We hope so too. And you can always find this running list of open businesses on our website.
