local restaurant is reopening today after being closed for a few months due to an extremely rare occurrence. Our Joyce Kim spoke to the owner of Brails on 5th today. She joins us now about why exactly that restaurant closed. Joyce. Now Kendall, the owner of Brails on 5th Street says his restaurant has now been closed for almost two to three months because of a small fire that happened back in mid-December. But the cause of the fire even left the fire marshal speechless. Take a look. Smiles all around the table as people are welcomed back to the reopening of Brails on 5th. It's definitely very exciting to be back. It's been crazy being out of work for so long. This after a small fire broke out in mid-December that shut the restaurant down for nearly three months. The cause of the fire you may ask? Well it's what the server's using to wipe down those tables. Some crazy one in a million thing happened where some towels that we washed because we have a washer dryer downstairs and every day we wash towels and get them ready for the next day. So we brought up the washed clean towels up in this room here and they spontaneously combusted. A combination of the grease and laundry detergent in the towels caused a chemical reaction that led them to burst into flames. And although the fire was small, the smoke damage took months to repair. It took us till now to open because there's a big ordeal. We had to repaint the whole place. We had to throw away a lot of stuff that couldn't be replaced. So we put new tile up on this backsplash here because it got burnt. And then the biggest thing was the HVAC unit, our heating and air unit, was so damaged from the smoke. Owner of the restaurant, Brian Song, says the community support was extremely encouraging throughout this whole process from the little that we've got from social media, people reaching out and supporting us and also all the kind words that we've received from our regulars and customers that go to our other restaurant on 17th and the Lammet. It just really touched our heart. The restaurant is hoping to rise The restaurant will be open from 8am to 2pm every day, but will remain close on Mondays. Kendall, back to you.
