Uncle Bobs General Store

So I'm at Uncle Bob's General Store on East Street in Ludlow, Massachusetts, where they have a terrific selection of some Portuguese wines. And we're going to pick out some wines to go with our meal tonight. As Port wine is a sweet wine from the north of Portugal from Porto, but there's also some excellent dry red and w And those are great with today's meal. There's three main growing regions of wine in Portugal. You have the north, the Doral area. You have the middle, which is the Estr And then you have the south, well, all three regions provide some terrific red and w And then there'some other areas in between with some smaller vineyards. So for today's wine, we're going to pick out an area from the Estr It's a terrific red, dry red wine. It has a nice ruby color and with a flavor of berries. It'll go great with today's meal.

I just came back from Uncle Bob's General Store in Ludlemast, Massachusetts and I picked out some great, great Portuguese wines to go with today's meal. Today's meal is a calde de alda. A calde de alda is a fish stew where we have three different types of fish and also we throw some clams in it to round it off and make it into a delicious meal. The wines that I picked out are three wines from the northern region of Portugal. Two are of the vinuverde variety. Vinuverde is a very unique wine that's very well loved in Portugal. They even make folk songs about it. It comes from the northern Portugal in a very protected wine growing region of Portugal. Amongst the wineries there is a winery of Avaleda. Avaleda makes some great, great vinuverde and I have three wines from their winery here today. The first one is quinta da Avaleda. Quinta da Avaleda is a blend of some old world grapes that are still grown in Portugal. Among those are trajadura, laurel, rinto and azal. Those are three old, four old world grape varieties still being grown in Portugal and used in making of the vinuverde. T It goes great with today's meal. It has a spritzer In keeping with vinuverde, I have another variety here also from Avaleda. T It'so called alvarino because it is made from another old grape variety called the alvarino grape. Another grape pretty unique to Portugal and very popular and arguably probably the best vinuverde grape that is used in making of t Again, it has a spritzer It's very well, very good. You can see that it has a nice golden color to it. Another wine that I have here is also from the Avaleda. Avaleda makes some blended wines with grape varieties The Foley's collection, t It's a nice smooth balanced wine. The Chardonnay is aged in oak barrels where the other grape variety is Maria Gomes. So that's an old world grape. It's 60% Chardonnay, 40% of the Maria Gomes grape. T I think you're gonna Serve these well c You're gonna love them. They go great with today's meal. The fourth wine here to keep a variety. We have the balance off our wine shelf. T Just south of Lisbon, there's an area of Stubble. And the Fonseca Winery is a major part of the vineyards in the Stubble area. They make some great, great, great red wines. And t And again, it's from the Fonseca Winery in Stubble, Portugal. Actually, the little town of Azeita. I was there last year, had a terrific meal in a little restaurant in Azeita and went and toured the Fonseca Winery. What an excellent, excellent facility there. They produce some great wines. So these wines are all priced under $10 a bottle. You can't go wrong with those prices. There'some great, great wines. They'll fill out your wine closet very well. It gives you a nice variety, especially with seafood, especially in the so go on down, try some out. I know you're going to love it.
