In 1978, Rich Roginski Sr. opened the first Westside Tire location at 2408 Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown. My dad decided to open his own business and he was going into the tire business initially with expanding into the service industry also. Today we see how the second generation is keeping the business on track in Shop Local. Shop Local is brought to you by PNC Bank. Here at Westside Tire in Austin Town, technicians are busy changing tires and maintaining just about every part of their clients vehicles. What started as a one location tire dealer in 1978 today is a full service maintenance and repair shop with three locations says President Rich Roginski Jr. 1984 we opened our second location on 422 and Niles across from the mall and in 1987 we opened a location at 4881 Mahoning Avenue in Austin Town. Roginski says Westside Tire has undertaken several initiatives to modernize and improve service over the past several years. All team members who come in contact with customers are certified as female friendly by AskPatty. com. They've also implemented a rewards program, a digital drop off box and virtual vehicle inspections. Our technicians will thoroughly inspect each vehicle making sure that there are no surprises for our customer. We want to keep their vehicles running efficiently and safely. We are then able to text and email our inspections to the customers so they don't even have to be here. They could be at work, they could be at play, they could be out to dinner and we can reach them. Still the industry has been challenging lately, Roginski says. Everybody knows about the supply issues. Everybody knows about the rising costs. We've been fortunate that we do have a pretty stable supply line. There have been times where we've been out of a few items, but for the most part we've been able to overcome that. To get women more comfortable doing maintenance work, West Side Tire hosts free lady care clinics the next is scheduled for October at the Niles location. It's a fun evening where we help educate women on what their car may need, may not need, what to look for and we even do some hands on with them. West Side Tire also makes a point to give back to the community partnering with the United Way, organizing back to school drives and donating to churches. We've had food drives. We've also had car shows where all the proceeds are donated back to the community. For more stories on local businesses, click shop local under the news tab at businessjournaldaily. com.
