For months, Governor Tom Wolf has been touting But lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have concerns about it and those concerns involve the natural gas industry. Eyewitness New State Capitol reporter Matt Heckel is live in Harrisburg with more. Matt? Hey, yeah, and those two sides have very different concerns. One is worried that the plan could end up hurting the natural gas industry. The other believes that it could actually end up having Pennsylvania be more reliant on natural gas in the future. Earlier this year, Governor Tom Wolf introduced his Restore Pennsylvania initiative, a four and a half billion dollar plan to fund infrastructure projects throughout the state, We believe Pennsylvanians deserve better than C minus infrastructure. It would be paid for through a severance tax on natural gas drilling. Despite the abundance of natural gas production here, we're the only gas producing state that does not levy a severance tax on gas drillers. But at a meeting of the Joint Senate and House Democratic Policy Committee on Monday, some raised concerns that the plan would tie Pennsylvania to the natural gas industry for decades to come. We will be investing in t Well the industry would invest, would make the investment. On the other side, some Republicans worried the severance tax could hurt natural gas producers, who already pay an impact fee. Speaker of the House Mike Terzai in a statement saying the severance tax would undermine the enormous economic and environmental contributions of natural gas. It would deter additional infrastructure and capital investments and it would kill jobs. And bills to establish, restore, PA have been introduced in both the House and Senate. They are in committee. Democrats in the House are actually preparing a discharge resolution to make sure that bill gets out of committee and into the full house. Live from the state of Capitol in Harrisburg, Matt Heckel, IWTN News. Thank you Matt.
