My name is Jimmy Dance. I make drawings. I make collages and I've been doing this for over 35 years. The h I don't dare to very cerebral art. Mine is more located from the gut. Most people with conceptual art, for example, you go from the head to the stomach in the best case possible. So you really you see something in your process that through your brain and go straight to your stomach and then you feel something. Or it stays in the head and that to me is incomplete. Other way around when the art goes from the gut to the mind that's perfect. If it stays in the gut it's not enough. When I draw on vell It's between plastic and paper basically. You can'tear it and when I do collages they usually magazine pages that I collage on and then I use sequins to cover the whole collage. The only thing that remains visible of the original magazine print is the eyes. Obviously I live in a very small studio in a typical railroad department in East Village. I can't make huge canvases here but I Those drawings take forever to make. So it's like months that I sit putting dots on a piece of vell So I usually use my collages then and that goes a lot faster. By placing the sequins I'm doing the same thing as placing a dot. Each sequin is basically a dot so I continue the conversation but with bigger dots. I moved here in 1997 from a small country called Belgi The city inspires me a lot. It keeps me on. It's very energetic and we have no time to So I There are so many art galleries. If you start in one gallery by the time the month is over the first gallery you visit has another show up and so you basically can keep watching art as much as you A friend basically brought me over here. He had an art gallery and he said I did. Because I was sick my arm in 2005 I could barely use my arm to draw so I couldn't draw anymore basically and my friend Hudson who used to run gallery feature he passed a few years ago. He told me That's the reason why I started an art gallery because I couldn't draw myself anymore and that only changed in 2019 that I could pick up my pencil again and work for a couple of hours and then stop and slowly but surely I was able to build an art gallery. Art is the most important thing in my life and when I speak about art I mean the arts that includes literature, music, dance, film making. The arts in general is what keeps me going. It is what makes me get up in the morning and unfortunately go to bed at night so because I'm afraid I'm going to miss something. It's an incredible engine of creativity that I
