Fine art on flesh and canvas.
Scott Glazier established Speakeasy Tattoo nearly 10 years ago and has a reputation of producing high quality art and tattoos that have been collected worldwide. The symbiosis between fine art and tattoo art is an important distinction that lends itself to the overall quality of the work. Applying these two techniques, we strive to approach each client's tattoo with honesty, dignity and commitment during the entire process. Speakeasy Tattoo is a place to relax and feel at home without feeling any pressure. Be confident knowing it's a calibration of art between the tattooer and the tattooee to come up with the perfect mark for your canvas. I look forward to working with you throughout this process.
Hi, I'm Scott Glazier. Welcome to Speakeasy Tattoo. In the environment when you're coming in to Speakeasy, I have this mixture of machines and nature and plants and the feel of prohibition. Everything that encompassed that era, being from Chicago, I often found myself really fascinated by those times. It's not only an essence of an environment that I've created, but it's also just an environment that's created itself. Not an interior designer by any means, but there was a time when this was my painting studio and I wasn't a tattooer. I still don't want to lose the organic essence of the environment. Every client that comes in here, their energy sticks and that's why we're as selective as we can be to make sure that we have a good fit with people so that the energy still remains true. The submission process at Speakeasy is slightly different than you might find at a traditional shop. No walk-ins available, no same day appointments are available. Here you have to fill out a submission form online. The submission form allows you to write your thoughts and your vision and also supply the shop with a few reference images that might inspire us, but ultimately it's just a beginning to the process of being tattooed here. There is a timeline that we adhere to just to make sure that what we're doing for the client is always heartfelt and not rushed. I put a lot of importance on being able to meet with the client, connect with the client and collaborate with the client. Everyone that comes in has an idea, but ultimately it's up to us to make sure that the idea is coming to fruition in a really glorious form. It's always 100% hand-drawn original piece that never gets tattooed again. That's a special piece for that specific client and then it gets put away and never duplicated. Each person that works here and is offered a position at Speakeasy has gone through my apprenticeship program. I have a very specific way of training new tattooers and I really put a high level of importance in keeping a lot of integrity in the tattoo community. Meaning I'm not going to be producing anyone that's tattooing that isn't familiar with machine building, isn't familiar with cross-contamination, the health department, public safety and the list goes on and on. Here at the shop we're always working with each other. It's actually required to come to a monthly paint night. All together we all gather and we cultivate some sort of art and they're open to do oil, pencil but working on that eye hard hand reflex constantly so that we're sharp for the clients when they come in. It's a great collaboration and a great exchange between everyone that's here, we have a good time. It's important at Speakeasy that each client feel Here the policy is that if you get a submission that artist connects with that piece and if they feel I have a lot of people who are getting their first tattoo and it's a little bit nerve-wracking, sometimes slightly intimidating but I welcome that. The real goal is to make sure that person feels I feel very fortunate that I am in this position. I can't stress enough how h
