Everybody, this is Eddie Timmins and welcome to Electric Expression, the blues edition. The blues is such a huge part of music, a huge foundation to all things, and popular music, and jazz and country. Everything seems to come from the blues, and it's what I started playing when I was young. Some of the elements are basically simple, so it's easy to grasp at the beginning, but then it takes a lifetime to master. And the journey is what is so amazing, and so important to me in my musical growth. So many of the players that have been great influences on my playing from a lot of different genres are all really steeply rooted in the blues. From Ace Freely to Joe Satriani, guys So much great blues at the heart of all these players, and I think so much of the reason for that is that the blues is so expressive, there'so much emotion in the music that and it lends itself to every other style, so it's a great foundation to have. I'm really excited to have put this blues edition of the electric expression course together for you. We split it up into two sections. In the first section, we're going to examine 14 essential concepts in blues playing, starting with some rhythm playing. Note choice. The right note at the right time means everything in blues playing, and we're going to work on that as well. Motific development and building your solos, very important how to use bending and vibrato to add the expression to your solos. In the second section, we're going to work through six playing examples, the A2s we put together to draw everything together to eliminate all these essential concepts in a musical context. The first example, we're going to play a blues shuffle in G and work on our comping and chord playing ideas. Next, we're going to work on playing bluesy double stops using the sixth interval and the third interval on the keybeat. Next is a C sharp minor blues that we're going to focus on the home tone as well as the blues note. The next performance study is a blues and A, it's a r The second with the key of A, the next example, is going to incorporate some modal ideas as well as chromatic passing tones. And finally, a cool rock track that we put together for you that's going to focus on the home tone and some motific development and playing some of these bluesy ideas in more of a rock context. For each of these performance studies, I'll play it for you first over the backing track so you can hear how it sounds, and then I'll break it down for you, pointing out the essential concepts and ideas behind it. All the key examples will be tab and notated, and you'll have the backing track to work out all these ideas on there. All right, you ready? Grab your guitar, plug in, and let's dig into this electric expression blues edition.
