Zulu Tattoo is a place where tolerance and creativity thrive. Our goal is to provide you with a unique custom design. We encourage you to get involved in the creation of your design as we work together to bring that which is within you to the surface
The art of tattoo has come full circle from its primitive origins. Getting ink is now part of the mainstream, but a select group of artists are honoring the form's traditional roots. My name is Zulu and I'm the owner and operator of Zulu Tattoo in Los Angeles, California. My original plans for my career in life was to be a graphic designer, particularly more of a commercial illustrator. I went to school for that college and I did well at it for quite some time. A lot of my friends happened to be musicians, actors, and really creative people who had tattoos. Now, at the time I didn'tattoo, but they would ask me to draw them designs because they would go to shops and they wanted sacred markings, but at that time shops didn't specialize in that, which eventually led them to asking me to learn to tattoo. For over 20 years, Ronnie Zulu has been creating intricate and beautiful skin art for customers including celebrities His store's motto is Welcome to the Tribe, but it took a while for Zulu to find an accepting community. When I decided to be a tattoo artist some 20 years ago, it was rough. I looked for an apprenticeship, but I couldn't get one because at that time the industry was very prejudice. I was not allowed into the industry because I was black, so I had to teach myself how to tattoo.
