One week of living off the land We started our living off the land challenge with a bang this week by making a big pot of venison borscht with some stew meat from our Dear and root veggies from the garden This is such a hearty and delicious meal and a great way to use up a big pile of beets for lunch We've mostly been having scrapplin eggs which is easy to throw together during the workday Our mushroom logs are loving the fall weather So we picked a little pile of them to bring out camping with us this weekend Sylvan had the idea to batter the mushrooms in our cornmeal and eggs and fry them over the fire To be honest, I thought this was a little too ambitious, but she proved me wrong in the best way We topped them with homemade hot sauce for a buffalo style fried mushroom And I have to say I think it's the best thing that I've ever eaten while camping We also brought out some venison steak canned beans potatoes garlic and honey needless to say we ate good this week
