Well Darrell, if you've made a trip to downtown recently, Changes local business owners say have been good for their bottom line. The sights and sounds of construction are everywhere in downtown Montgomery. Several residential projects are in the works and along with the addition of more people living downtown comes the need for businesses to provide services. Ron Dean is the owner of the Knicker-Necker Market on Lee Street. For the past year, Dean says he'seen his supply of customers increasing. Our clientele is the residents, the local businesses and everyday people just walking off the streets. Dean says he hopes one day to expand his market to a more full-service grocery store. But every decision he makes is based on demand and demand is there. And now over the past several months I would say it has dramatically increased. It has dramatically increased my business. With more and more businesses locating here on Dexter Avenue, one of the key ingredients for success is people walking the streets and people living downtown. The owner of Cucco's Mexican restaurant moved from his previous location just a couple of blocks away to here. And already his lunch business has exceeded what it was before. And with more lofts being built and apartments built downtown, that business should only grow. Any apartment that comes downtown is going to be at least one more protection customer for us for dinner and also lunch. But for now, Franco says he must remain patient until those new residents are in place. My business is still soft because downtown still needs a little more development. Development that is happening right now and that these business owners hope will pay off sooner rather than later. Now with the next several months or within the next several months, those apartments we showed in the story will be completed and open and with additional restaurants With the next big event, the 60th anniversary celebration of the Montgomery Bus Boycott at the end of this year.
