Frank's market is moving. It's been a West Side tradition in Grand Rapids for close to 90 years. New Saints Heather Walker went to the iconic store today to learn when and where it's. . . it's heady. Yeah, a lot of people are interested in this. Frank's is a favorite on the West Side, so don't worry. The meat market is not going too far. We have our double smoked. We have our different hot sticks. Til Bassa, brats, hot shots, those are just a few of the customers' favorite things. They're famous throughout the land. Vince Manacuso makes the trip from Grandville. Where you gotta go where the good stuff is. The place feels more Everyone in my family comes here. And the owner, Fritz Stanisak's family, is proudly displayed. It's my grandparents. It's my friend who owns the store, obviously, before my dad and my grandma. Fritz'son, Mitch, is next in line to take over what's been a family business from the beginning. My grandfather and my grandmother opened up the business in 1933. That's him on the right, the original Frank who immigrated from a German town near the Poland border. He met his wife at a German club in West Michigan, and together they started Frank's Market. My father bought the cash register from Ballpark Floral. A lot has changed over the years. The shop has been moved and remodeled. This fall, Frank's will be moving again, traveling two blocks west on Fulton in order to add a parking lot and handicap-friendly entrance. Despite all the changes, two things have remained the same. Frank's has stayed in the family and on the west side. My grandparents would be proud to see it going, but they probably never realized that what the business could develop, but probably didn't realize anybody was that crazy enough to keep this going. Not an easy business, but we all appreciate them. That opening day will be announced on their Facebook page, and for now, they're going to remain open at their current location. That's a lot of faithful customers to that store for sure.
