Hello, today we've come to Stamford in Lincolnshire. Yes, it's a lovely day. We're going to have a look around the town and follow the town trail. I'm ready looking forward to it. It should be good. A recent survey by Country Life declared Stamford as the Midlands favourite market town. Stamford was designated England's first conservation area in 1967. And un We followed the town trail, which is available at the local tourist information office. Located in the Arts Centre. As you walk around, looking at the beautiful buildings, you will notice many private homes, as well as a great many coffee shops and pubs. Making this a place of vitality. The town holds many events and festivals throughout the year, including a Riverside Festival on the first Saturday of July. Many films for television and cinema have been filmed here, including The March, The Vincicone and Private and Prejudice. Stamford's High Street has a great combination of national retailers and a huge range of specialist shopping. It has a reputation for elegant clothes, boutiques, antiques and bookshops. Local shops provide everything you may need, including sheet music and loose nails. There are over 40 places to sit down for a coffee break. Stamford's importance grew in the 18th century, and roads between London and Edinburgh were improved. This reduced the travel time from 12 to 14 days. Stamford was one day's travel from London, and so quickly developed coaching in, stabling and other trades to support the passing trade. Another key moment that has shaped Stamford was in 1832, with the passing of the reform bell. The town brought aristocracy, including the Cecil family, from nearby Burleigh, this scourge, expansion and development in the town. And as a consequence, the Great North Railway bypassed Stamford. As a result, the Victorian industrialisation of the 19th century did not affect Stamford, as it did many other towns. And so we can all enjoy an unspoiled town with many medieval and Georgian buildings. I hope you've enjoyed our look around Stamford. It's been lovely, hasn't it? It's nice, yeah. What a lovely little town. I know, and were lucky with the weather. Yeah, it's been brilliant. Well, Thank you. Bye. you
