Now on local 5 News at 6, a Green Bay Alderman sees potential in the old Easttown Mall. And I'michelle McCormack. First tonight at 6, could Easttown Mall really be turned into affordable housing? Alderman Brian Johnson thinks so. And as Eric Richards tells us, Johnson also thinks he's got the answer to a flooding issue nearby. The Easttown Mall in Green Bay is up for sale, the asking price $1. 9 million, but it's valued at $3. 4 million. Alderman Brian Johnson of District 9 has an idea. It's a great opportunity for the city to take a look at how we might have some uses for this site. There's a few things that we've been talking about on and off again for the last few years. Affordable housing continues to be a significant need in our community. Public infrastructure, which is really my driving force behind this proposal. And then of course commercial redevelopment. The idea of affordable housing does not sit well with one shopper I spoke to. I don't care for the affordable housing though because I don'think it would be private enough for the tenants. While another shopper is up for the proposal. There's not that much left at this mall, so if it could be a better use, might as well. One of the main issues in the area is flooding when it rains. Johnson would This is one of those sites that we've been looking at over the course of the last two years for possible public infrastructure improvements to address some flooding. So when it became listed, it was an ideal time for us to immediately take a look at it. This idea that Alderman Bryan Johnson has is far from becoming reality. The public will have an opportunity to voice their opinion in future meetings. In Green Bay, Eric Richards, Local 5 News. Thanks Eric and the Redevelopment Authority will take up that proposal in a meeting scheduled for October 13th.
