Baybrook Mall

I had a chance to check out the city of Friendswood when I was driving down from Houston into Galveston for Songwriter Night at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe. Friendswood is a suburb of Houston. It's located 30 miles southeast of Houston, so it's about a 40-minute drive to get down there, with just above 40,000 people as a population. This is kind of an under-the-radar suburb. There are some that are super hyped up around the Houston area, and this one isn't quite hyped up to the same amount, but it's got a lot of the things that people They got a close-knit community here, and there's less through traffic growing through this area. And of course, there's a bunch of homes here. They also have shopping centers that are splattered throughout, and they got quite a bit of trees around here. And Friendswood is notable because it's the only permanent town in Texas that started off as a Quaker colony. And so for a long time, this was a small and remote farming community up until the 1950s when it became more affiliated and attached to Houston. So the houses aren't super new here, and they don't have those master playing communities that you'll find in some of those really hyped up Houston suburbs. This place is really close to the airport, the hobby airport, so people who live here And Galveston isn'too far away, so there's a bit of a coastal lifestyle that people have here and a coastal feel with the bay nearby. And the footage that I've been showing here comes from the Baybrook Mall, which is just off Highway 45. And technically, it's regarded to be in Houston, but it's got a Friendswood address, and it's also a bit shared with League City, which is right next door here. This is on a Thursday just after lunch, so there's not too many people walking around. It is pretty hot outside, and walking around, I did discover that they have a huge indoor mall area, and there's a lot more people inside there. Overall, they say that they've got famous brands and the world's best retailers and today's hottest items that you can find here. I've found a movie theater there, and they've got a David Buster's and some sculptures and fountains and some fake lawn and some chairs that you can sit in there on that fake lawn. And they got a farmer's market here too, so this is a place where folks get together and they gather and they hang out. And I noticed a lot of places where you could find some food right here in this outdoor strip, and so I ended up finding some food at this place called Atsuka Ramen. Ultimately, I made it out to the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafes Songwriter Night. It's a real special treat here, and it's a really nice and supportive audience in an intimate place, and a lot of talented folks who play there. So I'm thankful that they have it here and for Tex Renner for making it happen. And I was going to mention this is probably my fourth time doing this open mic, and I was going to say that it was the first time I've not been high up here, but it's not true no longer. I had to go outside to tune my guitar, and it just seems whenever you get outside in Galveston, it's just everywhere. Got a travel song. Thanks for checking out this video.
