Springridge Village

A tragedy brings together neighbors at the Spring Bridge Village apartment who are raising funds for a mother at their complex who is stabbed to death. Alna Valdez has more details. Sina Ileon Montoya came to the U. S. from Venezuela hoping to build a better life for her two sons. But that dream was tragically cut short. She was fatally stabbed during what police say was a domestic violence dispute. Now her neighbors are stepping in to help cover funeral expenses and support her two young boys who are now left without their mother. Coming together as a community in the apartment to, Leu00f3n Montoya called 911 to report the domestic violence incident. However, police say a language barrier made it difficult to communicate with dispatchers. Just minutes later, officers arrived to find her critically injured. She later died at the hospital. Domestic violence advocates that were at the fundraiser say it's important to continue raising awareness. She was very loved and we pray for the children and just wanted to share with our organization if anybody needs any help that's what we're here for in the community. Neighbors have also launched a Go For Me page as part of their effort to raise enough money to either send Leu00f3n Montoya's body back to her family in Venezuela or to give her a proper burial here in the U. S. They say she had no family nearby and that is why they felt it was important to step up. So we don't know if they're going to send her body back or what we're doing. We're just trying to take the weight off of their family because they're so far away. Advocates say this tragedy is a reminder of how important it is to create safe spaces, especially within your own neighborhood. Just the neighborhood to take a step in and say, hey, are you okay?
