This is new at six. Ford City Mall could soon be sold and replaced with a new industrial park. And W. J. N. Brona T Brona. We just to hold a short time ago of a letter sent out to 18th Ward constituents by their alderman today. It talks about a potential redevelopment of Ford City Mall right behind us here. It was last sold in 2019 for $16. 6 million, but millions more could now be p This is going to be a very interesting change of time. Alderman Derek Curtis chatting with us today outside Ford City Mall. It's been there since 1965. And over the years has fallen into decline with overall vacancy at around 54%. This mall has been dying for years now. I mean, it's nothing. I've been there. I had my watch very fixed there the other day. And there's nothing in there. It's all deserted, basically. Russell Rzeczewinski sometimes comes here to do a little shopping and says it's been tough seeing big stores leave over the years. It'sad. It'sad, It's kind of close. So it ain'too far from where I stay and where I be. So I just come right here to get some t-shirts, some socks, some little stuff Bradley Lewis was kind of hoping for a brand new mall. But what's in the works is warehouses. They do make it to warehouses. That means there'll be more jobs, people, too, probably. So I feel Jobs could be a massive plus if a potential industrial development here gets the green light. An affiliate of Chicago-based developer Bridge Industrial wants to buy it for an undisclosed n From the current owner, Namdaer Realty Group out of New York. If they get it, they plan to invest upwards of $150 million, bringing multiple warehouses for distribution and light manufacturing. There would also be 900 new parking spots, 92 loading docks, extensive landscaping, and the rebuilding of 76th Street. It's going to put this entire, the acres and acres of land right back on the tax rolls. And we did reach out today to the current owner and the potential new owner as well. Neither of them responded. The construction end of this, we're told, could bring about 90 jobs, but about 400 to 450 permanent ones once all is said and done. But this is not a done deal. The potential new buyer needs to submit a rezoning application to get this project up and running. But before that happens, the Alderman wants to host a community meeting here to get some feedback on the project, but we will keep you posted when and where that will happen. Well, I'm Ford City Mall, for an automaty, WGN News.
