I wanted to update how I decided to follow the path of junking. I have always liked the unusual and unwanted things somehow they would always catch my eye. I would collect different items that I was drawn too. When I was around 15 I went to my first storage shed auction, but since I was only 15 I was not able to purchase one. When I turned 18 I was finally able to purchase my own storage shed at action. I paid $15.00 for it on a silent bid and it had dirty dishes in the front. The only reason I got it was because they made it sound like I had to put a bid down because I was there at the auction. I moved the dirty dishes out of the front almost everything in there was brand new. So I went and rented a space at the swap meet on Saturday and ended up making $3,000. From then on I was hooked on storage auctions. So for the next 10 years I went to storage auctions with finding knick-knacks of all kinds, until recently where I got laid off from my job and so I decided to turn the tables and take my crafty side and do something with it. The most I had dabbled in crafts was at craft shows selling random items I had made. Then came MTV episode featuring Pam Anderson Beach house and realized I was enamored and in love with the “shabby chic” look. I looked around the house and found a little nightstand that was a 3 drawer wood stand and gently applied paint to it. It sold and I made profit and decided that hey maybe this isn’t such a bad idea that I can turn junk into exciting junk. Now my little house is turned into my workshop with paint, sandpaper, steel wool, screwdrivers, and random pieces of furniture stuffed into every corner of my house. I am thankful I have walking paths to get around. I have gathered materials that have been affordable as my work is out of pocket no bank loans, no credit cards, just cold hard cash dollar for dollar. I hope with some of the profit I earn I will be able to open my own store front sometime in the future and still have items affordable for people, I believe we all have felt how hard these economic times are and I believe everyone has the right to something “shabby” in there life. So now I can say with a smile on my face welcome to “Junker Chicks”….
