Colleen Sundlie, better known as the Date Lady, discovered the culinary possibilities and nutritional benefits of dates and date syrup when her family relocated from the US to the Middle East for several years. The caramel-like fruit was everywhere from coffee shops, cafes, health clubs, hotels and even boutiques. Colleen started using date syrup in her household and it was a great source of iron and other minerals for her children. Colleen and her husband, Ryan, fell in love with the unique date varieties and one-of-a kind date syrup prolific in the UAE. However, it was impossible to find these high-quality, distinctive dates the US, so they decided to dive into the date business! They launched Date Lady in 2012 and it has introduced brand new products to the American specialty food market.
Hi, I'm Colleen Sunley, the founder of Date Lady. Our story started 15 years ago in the food markets of the Middle East. My husband was teaching at the University in the United Arab Emirates and I've always been kind of a foodie and so we would explore the food markets and so we would make friends with a lot of the people that were selling food at the markets. It's a huge date culture so anytime you go to someone's house they bring out a platter of dates and Arabic coffee. And so I really got into dates when were living there and then one day I picked up this bottle of date syrup. So I brought the syrup home to try and I was just totally blown away by the flavor profile. I mean it's just super complex, not as sweet as honey but not as strong and offensive as molasses. And so over the course of three years we fell in love with it and we moved back to the states and couldn't find it anywhere and we decided this is something that so many people in the U. S. would love and we just felt Dates are special because it'so full of nutrients so it has more potassi The antioxidants are out of this world high.
