Muddy's Market is located in the heart of Fredericktown, Kentucky – "The Burg." We offer a large variety of name brand items at super discounted prices.
In 1990, my father, Buddy Mudd, purchased a building in Fredericktown, Kentucky from Joe Bernard Filiatreau. Joe Bernard had decided to move his successful butcher business known as “The Meat House” on to Springfield. This building was for many years known simply as “The Burg Store,” which is what we still call it today. Dad never had any intentions of continuing to run a general store out of it, as he was probably a little burnt out from being raised in one his entire life only 200 feet away from this one. However, it was very important to him to preserve the building and give it a facelift. Dad loved to make things nice, as was evident through his farm, his home, a 200-year-old cabin he owned, and various things he worked on throughout the years. In 2005, my brother John moved from Florida to Kentucky and started a candle factory in this store called Joseph Thomas. It was an exciting time for the “Burg” as a business was finally reignited in the store and in this quaint little town. That store never had smelled so good, and there was actually a bit of action happening. Sadly in December 2008 we lost John in a tragic cabin fire. It was such a great loss – one that still seems surreal. Thank goodness we were showered with so many wonderful memories spent with him, because most tangible items were lost. The “Burg Store” was the place that still existed when everything else didn’t. This is the place that John left a huge mark, and for that reason, it is a place forever cherished. This past January, we also had to say goodbye to the most remarkable man I have ever known: my father, Buddy. For him, the store was also a historical reminder of the community he loved so much. I could listen to Dad tell stories for hours about this little town and the shenanigans that occurred. Continuing to take care of something that has fostered growth, love, and tradition was very important to Dad, which is why I feel compelled to carry on this spirit. No, I don’t think dad would like the pink on the sign, but I do think he would be happy that his store is being taken care of and a place for people to come and enjoy.
