Along with good dry and wet traction, the Cross Climate 2 is branded with the industry's three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, so it's intended to serve as a one-tire solution for mild winter climates. On the road, the Cross Climate 2 delivered its trademark firm, but well-controlled ride that managed to communicate imperfections in detail, but without feeling harsh or overly damp. While its taut ride was somewhat of a sporty trade, and wasn'the most comfortable in the test, its composed ride quality was The tread pattern seemed to react to coarser road surfaces with a little more tread noise, but nothing stood out as objectionable and would quiet down nicely on smooth pavement. Steering from the Cross Climate 2 was one of our driver'subjective favorites, with its firm and precise feel yielding accurate and natural changes in trajectory through turns. On the wet track, the Cross Climate 2 laid down the shortest stopping distance from 50 miles per hour, and lateral traction levels ever right in line with the tight grouping at the top. It had good front-end authority that always communicated where it was in the corner, but at times it seemed If the driver kept things neat and tidy, though, the Cross Climate 2 would easily carve every inch of corner available for satisfying laps. Once the track dried off, the Cross Climate 2's front-end eagerness seemed to sync up better with its traction levels. Its competitive lateral traction around the skid pad combined with test-leading braking distances which were immediately obvious for our drivers in the first corner. While it didn'turn the fastest laps of the test, our team was impressed by its precise and calculated cornering.
