Intimate Expressions

My name is Sway and I'm a photographer. My book is called Queerography, Intimate Expressions of Queer Culture in Tokyo, Bangkok and Hong Kong. I've been photographing LGBT culture for the past seven years. These are performers, artists, they're my friends and my family. It's my community. These are beautiful, amazing individuals who each have a unique voice that deserves to be heard. We collaborate to create these images as a bridge that connects the viewer and the subject as two people regardless of their identity. These images were taken on a six-month journey through major Asian cities. Love hotels, women only lesbian bars, private fetish clubs, drag shows, pride parades, dawn sessions, scaling rooftops. I'll basically go anywhere and do anything to get the shot. Queer used to be a derogatory term. It's been reclaimed by a new generation. It's lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, intersex, absexual. It'sex workers, kinksters, dragsters, fetishists. It's me, it's you. Everyone who feels limited by society's binary standards. We're all queer.
