We are a values based, community owned, two location grocery store fighting against the big box model and putting people before profit. We value sustainable sourcing and quality ingredients. You don't have to be an owner to shop, so come on in!
Mission: We bridge the gap between local producers and the people of Portland. We fill the shelves of our neighborhood grocery stores with local, fresh foods and all the flavors of each season so you can eat colorfully and live vibrantly. Our History: In 1972 a group of neighbors in Northwest Portland joined together to sell groceries out of a little store on 23rd Avenue. Their mission was to provide their community with a place to buy good quality groceries that couldn’t be found in regular supermarkets. Even though this first grocery store was small, the impact of people coming together to provide for themselves and their community was immense. Over the years our store has moved a few times, is now owned by over 10,000 people and has two locations but are still committed to providing the finest quality wholesome foods for our community.
Hi, I'm Holly Jarvis from the Foodfront Co-operative Grocery in Portland, Oregon. Co-ops are really a unique kind of grocery store, primarily because of the way that we're owned. The fact that we are owned by our own, by the cons We're in business to serve them and to reflect what they want and need from their community. So that gives us a very unique position to distinguish ourselves from other grocery stores, other chain stores, and to be just so rooted in our communities and to help people have some kind of control and influence over their source of food, which is so fundamental to people and their families. Our customers and our owners have voiced what they want from our stores. They've really influenced our product line. We have two locations, and so we're able to have each location be very distinct and different from the other because of what our customers themselves want to buy and what they support. They want us to look and feel So we're able to really focus in on serving their unique needs and lifestyle and values. For our two stores, the distinct neighborhoods, in one neighborhood, it's primarily urban and urban couples with no children, having professional lifestyles, very busy. They love to come and shop almost daily and provide the meal of the day that day. Whereas in our other neighborhood, it's mostly families and people who have very busy lives with their kids and school and activities, so they tend to shop once a week, maybe twice a week. They cook a lot more from scratch than in the other neighborhood and put a lot more energy into selecting products for the whole family and for the kids in particular.
