I'm James Southgate, Field Technical Manager for St. Jenta and we're here to look at Blackgrass Control. At the Barton Innovation Centre we are looking at different cultivation techniques influencing the distribution of blackgrass throughout the soil profile. The techniques we are looking at are shallow, minim We used rice to simulate 65,000 seeds per metre squared of blackgrass on the surface. As this is roughly the n Shallow cultivation is mixing the soil to the maxim You can see some of the rice remained on the surface w The blackgrass should germinate from t Here we've put down rice to simulate blackgrass seed return and here we're using the rice to show what the minim We've got blackgrass seed that will still remain on the surface but also it's mixed all the way through the profile right down to the cultivation depth and so we've got blackgrass seed now all the way through that profile. You can see the impact of minim With the deeper minim Plowing can be an effective tool to bury blackgrass seed. The skimmers are taking the soil surface and any recently shed blackgrass into the bottom of the furrow. The blackgrass is buried at a depth of 20cm w T We will be looking at the blackgrass levels in the field after all these different cultivation techniques. Stay tuned with hashtag grassweed diaries.
