Life can be stressful and we are all looking for different ways to relax. That search led to the start of the business for our latest inspiring 815 recipients who show us how therapy led to an opportunity. It's a well-oiled and well-waxed machine at Craft & Foster where Chad and Melissa Burgess are always moving, mixing, and packing their freshly made candles. The find ourselves as business owners, sometimes we laugh about it. We're like, we own a candle company and we'll just like laugh, It's funny because it wasn't planned. A candle business was never in the cards for this couple. Initially it was something Melissa picked up to help her cope with PTSD after her time as an army medic in Iraq. I started with just It is a very therapeutic process to do something from start to finish in complete projects and all those kind of things. Soon Melissa began making candles for friends, which turned into selling them at small markets to now having candles in hundreds of stores nationwide. Not bad for a happy accident. It's certainly been a learning, We've had lots of trial and error. Lots of errors. We've made some great decisions and we've made some bad ones, but we've come a long way from, Chad actually grew up in Rockford, but moved to San Diego where he met Melissa and started a family. They decided to move back to the 815 to better support their family and branch out into the foundation of small businesses the state line is built on. There's tons of organizations out in Rockford that are And we would love to like get behind some organizations that are like, At the end of the day, it's really about something bigger, something greater, something that gives back and I think we're in a good place to begin to find that locally.
