Comfort Quilts is a subgroup of Stitches from the Heart. They meet once a month at Rome to work on quilts for various organizations and charities within Sault Ste. Marie. I've been actively involved with Comfort Quilts for about the last three years and this year is my first year as chairperson. So I organize this day for all the ladies to come. I distribute the quilts to the charities and it's a lot of fun and very, very fulfilling. Well, first of all, I love a Comfort Quilt. They're not a large quilt. They're a small quilt. They're fast to make. They're very much appreciated by the people who receive them. And what we mean for them to be is a hug from us, the quilting community, a hug from us to the recipient. And they really do, they get that message when they get a quilt from us. Comfort Quilts also works with Easter Seals to provide a quilt for the Easter Seals Ambassador. This year they decided to provide 20 quilts to the other Easter Seals kids. So I got thinking and some of the other ladies got thinking, well, not all of the Rotary children get to be the ambassador. So I contacted Carolyn and talked to her about it and she agreed. And I put forth a proposal to her. What about the other Rotary children who would surely appreciate a quilt? So she agreed and I agreed. I came back and talked to the ladies here and they were all very, very enthusiastic about it. Oh, we always get beautiful thank you cards from people who receive them. When I sometimes they can't send a thank you card, but somehow the message always gets back to us, that they are very appreciative and many of them, it just brightens their day and then every time they use the quilt, it just brings a smile to their face. It just makes it worth making for them. Nadine is a new member to Comfort Quilts and enjoys working on the quilts with the other ladies. Actually, our president, Mary Ann and I both were members of volunteers at ARCH and she was talking to me about it and how much she enjoyed it and time went on a little bit and then I met another new member and she was talking about it. I said, It's time. So I went to two of their guild meetings, which are at the end of the month of every month, the last Monday of every month. And I really enjoyed it. I've been ever since, so just over a year now. This is the quilt I'm working on. Right now I'm learning how to do binding and binding is this piece that goes along the side. So that's what I'm learning how to do today. And then it'sewn on and then I slip it over and then I sew it again and then the quilt will be done. We all laugh and joke and we eat and we talk and we have show and tell, which is when we bring everybody brings their projects in. The work is phenomenal. It is art. We have people that come from all over the place and come and show their things as well. We have, it's just amazing the work and the colors. If you would com. For Ghosts Who St. Marie, I'm David Carlasio.
