Eating healthy is a challenge for even adults, so imagine if when you were a kid someone actually helped you learn how to do it in a fun, easy to understand way where the food actually tasted great as well. That is exactly what Cafe Cross Country Cooking Club is all about, and that is happening at Cross Country Elementary and middle schools. Here to tell us more about it and to show off their cooking skills are Cynt I got all that w Yes. All right, good. There's a lot of you here. So tell us to begin with Cynt How did t Well, it came to because we noticed that kids are sedentary, so they just sit and play games. So I thought about them eating healthy. So many kids have diabetes, Somet And now they find out that they love broccoli, they love asparagus, they love kale, so all of the healthy t I know that you're part of t Yes. What is your assistant here doing, Kelsey? She is really cooking up something, h What'she making? She is making asparagus with shrimp. Now, is this something that No. T Yeah? So what do you That we make healthy t Do you have a favorite meal? Yes. What's your favorite? My favorite meal is kale c Yes. Okay, so you have to tell, there might be some kids watching today, and they're going to be What do you say to kids that say they don'that you have to taste it first. I was just going to eat them and figure it out myself. They're pretty good? Mm-hmm. So, when you hear the kids talking about, I was not making food when I was seven years old, unless it was cereal. How did you get them started to actually want to do t Well, actually, when I started the cooking club, it was a volunteer t Whoever These kids really want to cook, and some of them have told me that they do cook at home. Wow. So, we started out slow, safety. They learned etiquette also. That's what I was going to ask you. I should have said master coal, right? Yes, master coal. They learned how to pull chairs back for girls and push them under, and they learned how to let the girls sit first. And the girls learned how to be ladies to sit down and how to set a table. Proper utensils. Proper utensils. That's wonderful. I know adults that don't even know that. So, there you go. And you said for a lot of these students, t Yes, it is. All right. Yes, it is. Well, t So, t It's all happening at Cross Country Elementary Middle School. We operate Tuesdays and Thursdays. And we do from second grade to fifth grade. Yes. And second grade to fifth grade.
