Peace Water Winery

They've only been around for one year but Yelpers can't get enough of t Let's go inside and check them out. I'm joined in the tasting room by Scott, the co-owner of Peacewater. Congrats on your business. It's been what, a year now? Just over a year. Yeah. It's been successful. You said how many, you've already got tons of members for the wine club. Yeah, were open for 100 and we've got 248 after the first year. Straight out of the door. So tell us a little bit about t Well, it's pretty unique business model. We, I had a lot of other businesses in the past and very successful, luckily. And so t So, we knew we wanted to do somet So, and we love wine. So we kind of combined those two little passions of ours and decided that we'd try and create a business model after it. And so, we make our wine out in California, bring it back here and then we donate 50% of our net profits to charities. And every person, so when you get to, you purchase a bottle and then you can choose w You said that charities are chosen by your c Is that right? Yeah. I've got eight kids. So, lots of charities to choose from. I t So I feel Right. And the actual build out that we did here in the winery, they all help with that. Down to the branding and things Even the names of the wines themselves. We had a group text every night that we got to shoot out to all the family members and pick wine names. And then, Yeah. I love every piece of that. So, when people can come in here, there's, you've got a back patio space. You've got private space. What can they expect on a given Friday night? What's usually happening in here? Lots of different t We usually go on a Friday and Saturday nights especially. Where we're standing is our tasting bar where you can try the different wines. You can try five of our 11 wines. We also sell it by glass, sell it by the bottle. A lot of times we'll have an event And then live music on the back patio that we opened up last month w Yeah. And one of the fun t Where do folks usually, what's the arms reach away? Yeah, we are a BYOF. We're bring your own food. But also we have carryout menus Donatello's restaurant here in the Carmel Orkson design. Exactly. Four loaded cheeses on your bread with your wine. Right. So we've got a tasting here. What are, tell us a little bit about the wines. Well as I mentioned we make all the wine out of California. So that's part of the, we're the only Indiana owned California winery. So it's pretty unique business model. We're from here though and grew up here. But I have contracts with different vineyards all over Napa and Sonoma. Now a winemaker's out there full time. He's been in the business forever. Got very fortunate to have Came up with 11 different wines that we've got right now. We have four whites, a rosu00e9, four reds and then There'several options that people can come back and keep trying new ones. Absolutely. And what was t Yeah, first time a new winery has ever won t We submitted our wines to the Indian International Wine Competition we've got some wine small over the place. I'll be proud of. Right, 2200 different wines and that, our red blend was named the red wine of the year for 2015. That's fabulous. Yeah, were floored and excited obviously. Yeah, so kind of what's next for Peacewater winery? What are Yeah, going forward we are actually going to start going into restaurants around. We've got a lot of local restaurants asked to start carrying our wine. So we're going to start carrying our wine there. Maybe in the future some additional space downtown we've been looking at maybe perhaps open another tasteroom downtown. I love it, I love it. And you said even on weekends it gets so busy here you've even got a second bar in the back to keep the flow. Yeah, exactly. Just want to grab a glass or a bottle and you don't want to mess with the crowd and tasting bar you can go straight to there. It's a good problem to have in the first year. Right, exactly.
