The Brew Shop

The Brew Shop is a local specialty beer and homebrew store in the Courthouse neighborhood of Arlington, VA. Drink Proud. Love Local. Brew Well.

We aim to be Arlington's first great beer store, with an emphasis on all things brew, including craft beer, homebrew supplies, wine, and locally roasted prepackaged coffee.

Welcome to Kentucky Brewer Reviews, I'm Special K and t Arlington Virginia is about 5 minutes from Was In t It is a large city so the locations are pretty small. The beginning there shows a flight. T So the first store I'm going to show you is actually called the Brew Shop. We'll get there in a minute. It was an interesting store. It was very small. They actually sell home brews equipment and hops and they also sell beer. Mostly craft stuff. They didn't really sell anyt And there's your sign right there. Here's the intro to the store. Oh they sold wine too but I didn't show too much of the wine. Here'some of the hops they have w Most of the hops I've seen are like pre-packaged and vacu So I guess that was cool. And there's their scales right there for weig Here'some of their wine. They get their cold ready to go on. Some hops and yeast and whatnot right there. And here'some of their local 6 packs of pints and stuff. I don't know much about any of these breweries. Again t A few of these aren't local. I see some Anderson Valley stuff. I know that's not local. There'some left hand milks out down there. Some Boulevard Brewing Bells, Dragon's Milk. There's a beat up there, Sweet Baby Jesus. Their prices were a little So their 6 packs were kind of Their singles were really, really But at the time I didn'there was Neither one of those stores sold singles. Because I flew to Was So I could only bring back a very few beers. So I was trying to get singles so I could maximize the amount of beer I could bring back. There'so many cool beers here that I wanted to grab and I just couldn't. So if I were to buy 6 packs of every beer that I wanted we would not be doing a show anymore because that would be crazy expensive. Some of these 6 packs were upwards of $20, $25. I t 15. But And again, t Now here are their singles. Each single was individually priced. They didn't do a deal They had a lot of Oktoberfest, a few p But they didn't have a lot of stuff that I was interested in from the previous beer fridge. They just weren't out. I did ask if they would break up a 6 pack and maybe give me a single and they said they would do it on some of them. But a lot of them they couldn't do. So like on the seasonal stuff they said they would do anything like they would break up any of the p So I was able to get a few p But I t A few snacks here and there but I was pretty interested in t I didn't pick it up. Again I was limited on space but I wish I would have. It looked It was 10 bucks for that bottle. It looks I wasn't entirely sure. The only domestic thing they really had that I saw at the store was they had some white claws at the store and I guess you could call Hainan Sunsips sort of domestic or But that little cardboard box there was some firestone. I actually got to pick one of those up. These are the bombers and stuff in t It was Toppo C They didn't have a single available. They also had the section right here w A lot of p A lot of Oktoberfest. I wanted that one. I wasn't able to get a hold of that one. There'some Sarnak P It was another one I was interested in getting even though I'm not a big p It was one I really wanted to try. Dogfish head is a lot of money. That one's okay. What I thought was pretty cool was they made their own six packs of various Oktoberfest so you could try them. And those six packs range from They also had a Growler section too. So now we are in an ABC store in Arlington, Virginia. T ABC stores where alcohol is sold. In Virginia wine and beer are sold in grocery stores and beer stores and then their alcohol, vodka, all that stuff are sold in stores And ABC stores. Now they are state ran meaning all the prices are the same no matter where you go in the state w Judging by the prices of the store I thought they were a little Two to $30 more than what I see in Kentucky. Also there were a lot of empty spaces as you can see from here. There's a lot of empty gaps and they didn't have a particularly huge selection. But again all their stuff is regulated so there's only so much they can get per store. So they had some stuff unique to the store Unique to the state. I'm not used to seeing Most of the time those are locked up or there's just a cardboard pitcher because they constantly get stolen. So I haven't seen anyt I haven't seen the Soju right here. So I went ahead and picked up it's apple flavored. I've seen Soju before but I haven't seen a flavored one so for $5. 79 I figured I'd pick it up and it's a small bottle w Again DeSerono a little Good Diva chocolate. We haven't reviewed it on the show it's alright. Buffalo Trace but urban cream. That's pretty normal prices. There was a few t I've never seen t I thought about picking it up but it didn't seem worth it. And there's that r They have a lot of low end stuff that I haven't seen Boston r Mr. Boston is a Kentucky brand but I've never seen a white r Bacardi. So when I was doing this video I actually slowed down the footage a little bit for I had two of the people working there they were just following me the entire time and watc There'some Johnny Walker Blue label. I'm surprised they just leave a $229 bottle of Scotch just sitting out on a shelf for anybody to just pick up. I feel Lot of Johnny. Some green label. Cannons. I've never seen Singleton before. That was the first time I've seen that one. I've seen t So you'll pass by it right here in a second. You're going to see a $2,000 bottle of McCallan. So $2,500 bottle of McCallan just sitting out on the shelf. There's no way in Kentucky I'd ever see a $2,500 bottle of McCallan for anybody just to pick up and walk away with. There'some screwball. It seems to be everywhere. I don't 75 before. So that was I guess a new the bourbon selection is pretty weak. It's a bullet, some Jim Beam. And Jefferson's. It's a four rows of small batch right there w Price was way At least way more than when I'm used to paying. I t 99 for that. I think I pay Some tin cup. I did see t I almost picked it up. But then I saw cinnamon flavors and caramel color added and I decided to pass on that one. There seemed to be There's all the Jose. Again, they had what you'd expect for any basic store in the Kila. You're 1800, you're Jose. You're Patron, you're Don. Hornitos. And there was a few that I didn't recognize right below the Patron there. Some Cabo Wabo, Cacadores. I t W You don't see mescal super often. But I t Onto some of the cognac and brandy and stuff. I don't know too much about cognac and brandy. I'm not going to pretend I do. We don't do a ton on the show. Some Hennessy Black. I did pick t Syrac brandy. I didn't know Syrac made brandy n I was So I picked that up. I have zero expectations for that. It's $17 for a bottle of brandy that's actually solid. Even if it's, I don't expect it to be somet But that is a pint. So $17 for a pint I guess is a tad You can see the guy'shoes over there. He was watc A lot of Titos. Nikolai right here. Very expensive. They had $7 just Nikolai. I t 99. But apparently, as you'll see in a minute, they did have some lower end vodka at the store that we don'typically get where I'm from. Some Platin There'some weird chocolate. I never heard of that brand. 360 chocolate vodka. That sounds good. More Syrac. Everybody loves Syrac. The prices seem to be pretty standard on the Syrac. Wherever you go, about the same as there in Kentucky. There'some of the lower end vodka I was talking about. There'some absolute. Whatever that red bowman's, that looked questionable. Deep Eddie's is always good if you're looking for a good flavor at vodka. The Svetka prices are a little I'm used to paying about $12 for a bottle of Svetka. The Amsterdam flavors are normal. Some Smirnoff. I thought that was a little Here'some Basil Haydn's. Some Mixtures. There'some Strandhands up there. I've never heard of that Widow Jane that was right next to it. I thought about getting it. There was some W Everybody loves Fireball. Everybody's got to have it. There's more Fro-Roses down there. T I wasn't familiar with Safeways. We don't have them where I'm from. But they did have a very good beer selection. I was really disappointed. I checked a few gas stations and a few questionable places to try to find some 40s. Even I found a 7-Eleven and nobody seemed to have 40s. Those were the only 40s or 32 ounces I was able to find when I was looking. A lot of cellsters to be expected. Prices were a little bit better in here, but it is a grocery store. It's what you'd expect. A lot of stuff I haven't seen before as far as cellsters go. Some decent variety of packs of beers. It looks Whatever that Richmond Lager at the top there. Some Victory, Sour Monkey, Gold Monkey, Dogfish Head, some too harded right there. Some Cigar City Brewing. I know I wish I could have picked t Blue Moon Hayes. I just couldn't fit a whole pack in my suitcase. Again, I'd have to have a whole six pack. T I wasn't going to be able to drink that at the time that I needed it. A lot of stone beers. Some Great Lake stuff. Some more domestic and imports. T I'm still kicking myself for passing that one up. I just had a sheer kerosene. I don't even care if it's good. I just wanted to try it. Again, it sprashes off to somet It's always cool to try. Some too harded L12 packs. They did carry some wine here, but that's about it for the Safeway. I'm going to show you guys some clips and some pictures for my trip just because Lincoln Mon It was a really, really cool trip. I was really lucky to have the ability to go here and have the time. Me and my wife had a great time. Again, we came here for a wedding, so I'm going to congratulate the lucky couple. I'm not going to say their names. I hope they have a very happy and long marriage. Here'some pictures from the Science Muse Here's a picture from my hotel room. Here's a picture from the venue we had the wedding at. Here is the after party of the reception at the wedding. It was a really, really fun time. If you guys like to see anything else in the video, make sure you I'm Special K.
