Remember the Dagwood comic strip and his mile high sandwiches? Well they serve them like that at Domini, a locally owned sandwich shop in the heart of downtown Spokane. If you're hungry and appreciate a deli meat and cheese sandwich shop, you owe it to yourself to check it out.We are also offering a smaller sandwich, called the "small half" for the lighter eater. We are now serving fresh soups daily. AND, we also serve our famous popcorn with every sandwich. Keep in mind it's cash only or checks for the typical lunch order. however, we do accept some major credit cards for large lunch orders.
In the meantime, it tonight's the last night before beloved Spokane sandwich shop reopens its doors and a brand new location. It's a story Krem two has been following for quite some time. Now Krem two's Connor McEvoy takes us inside ahead of reopening day. If you're walking down South Howard Street, the historic James S black building holds a new but familiar business, and it's even more familiar when you step inside. Popcorn popped, bagged and ready to be sold. That's a small part of the work. The new owner of Domini sandwiches, Nikia Tilton says, has been months in the making. Getting the right stock and getting the right stuff, making sure that you have all of your eyes dotted and crop, Tilton worked at Domini's making sandwiches for more than a decade. I'm going to make a turkey. It's out for its longtime customers. This is the honey mustard, the sweet hot mustard that people love. She bought the business from her former boss and longtime owner for more than half a century, Tom Domini. He retired and closed the previous location on Sprague Avenue in December of 2024, right before the lease on the building ended. That's where Tilton had the inspiration to move the shop just two blocks away. Tilton says the street it's on holds a special place in the business's history. It actually started on Howard Street, just up the street. And then there was a fire and then they ended up moving to 703 West Spray. That's where Tom worked alongside his family. Now, Tilton is doing the same with her husband, two kids and granddaughter, Sophia is our little mascot. That'something Tom wanted to make sure stayed the same. It's a family business. And she says that's not the only tradition kept alive. All the menu items are the same. We might add some things down the line, but we're not taking away anything. Not taking anything away after being given a business to run. She holds dear. I never thought it would happen. And I think it's a really it's a blessing that it has sandwiches, family and popcorn. That's too good to pass up in Spokane. Remember that we're here. Connor McAvoy, Cru00e8me Tue News. And if you do want to check out the new location, the restaurant opens up tomorrow morning, starting at 10 o'clock.
