New this morning in 2014, Larry Hattaberg visited Ruth Jones in Partridge, Kansas. He showed us how unique the closeness and importance of one small town restaurant can be. Yeah, Ruth has owned and she's worked at her cafe for over 50 years, but she's retiring after this weekend. Cake photo journalist Isaiah Eldridge went back to get reaction on such big announcement. I be Ruth. They named her after her great grandma. Ruth is one of a kind and she's been part of our lives and been a friend and so that's always going to be missed. It's not just the place, it's the people you have a relationship with. Yeah, we'll really miss coming over here and getting a hamburger and french fries and Yep, meat looks today. I've been probably coming to this restaurant with Ruth here for probably close to 45, 50 years. The food's just so good and my favorite pork chops on Monday and chicken on Friday, but every day is good. I think she makes one of the best hamburgers and if I get a chance to get it, I'm going to miss that apple pie. I think she makes the best apple pie in the county. It's not only about the meals here. This cafe is part of the community here in Partridge and it's an important part. Just a tremendous impact that it's going to have without Ruth being here. We'll miss Ruth and we just enjoy eating here. Over the years I've brought many of my friends out here. If I had somebody visiting them from another part of the country or something, I'd say I've got to take it someplace that's really unique because there's not very many restaurants Miss talking to the people I guess. I sure don't miss the work. She just is kind of a legend. People know her and they Ruth is a good gal. She's a good gal. Several of Ruth's regulars said that they're going to miss her behind the stove but they're happy that she's ready to move on after all of these years. Oh yeah, she deserves a break. She's worked hard. Her last day running the cafe will be tomorrow. Good luck to her. We'll be right back.
