Mabe Deli was named in honor of my grandmother, Mayanna Mayberry. I grew up in public housing on the Southwest Side of Chicago, me and my two older sisters. My grandmother looked over us and took us in. She is the main reason I do what I do today. My name is Derek Rowe. I'm the owner of Mabe's Deli. I became police officer because the values my grandmother instilled in me, I wanted to steal in young black males in city of Chicago. And what Mabe Deli gives me, that opportunity to talk to my more personal level, that is more important than anything. DJ Terry Pernini, our most popular sandwich, is made with Swiss cheese, honey roasted turkey, a handmade Kingston jerk sauce, in a combination of the Swiss cheese and that jerk sauce.
