I started this business for my wife, Joy, to offer shoppers a reasonable price on various accessories and to offer others the opportunity to start their own business. With so many families seeing less in their checks, spouses being laid off and simply the increased cost of every day items a lot of people are looking for a way to earn extra money. My wife started having some problems with her health last spring, and as a result her employment was terminated. While she has had some improvement since then, thank God, she still isn't to the point where she is able to return to the workforce. I'm a small business owner. I started a furniture installation company, Advanced Modular Installations, back in 2001 and it is still running well today. Nevertheless we were used to Joy making a good amount of money as well. Since most of my business is government contract work it has slowed down some and given recent news flashes it is likely to slow a bit more. Last fall I decided I needed to find a way to generate some of that lost income. As a result, Joy of Shopping was born. My wife Joy is a shopaholic. I’m kidding, but it certainly is her favorite thing to do. Shopping runs in her blood since her parents have been in the retail and wholesale clothing and accessory business for over 30 years. Given that, they are certainly a wealth of knowledge and resources. My wife and I have helped them over the years with different events and shows and Joy really enjoyed it. I thought to myself, what better way could I please my wife then to start up a company where she can SHOP for merchandise once she is ready and able to return to work. I think anyone that can make a job out of something they love doing is going to be successful. Joy of Shopping carries a variety of accessories like scarves, hats, fashion jewelry, pocketbooks and great gift items. I know there are other companies selling similar products. I can’t think of any product off hand that only comes in one brand or is supplied by one single company or a single store.
