Two men. One, a professional, who embodies within his person what it is to be an American road racer. The other? Well, not. Both bound by a mutual passion for pushing themselves to their respective limit and doing their very best to go faster than the next guy. Both having found themselves in the wilderness. Both looking to find out if what they believe about themselves as racers is still valid. Both now finding themselves called together by a man holding a lantern, lighting a way back. A way back to essence. A way back to fun. A way back home. So, after Fontana, I get a call from John Ethel. You see, at that race, he reminded me that I used to be a good amount quicker than I had been all season. He also said that if I wasn't having fun, then what was the point of being out there in the first place? He then suggested that perhaps it was time to have some fun again. I wholeheartedly agreed with that notion. He then proceeded to tell me that he'd build a bike for me to race if I promised to show up in Vegas to race it. Yeah, I was already packing my bags. As it turns out, I wasn'the only one Mr. Ethel called forth to Vegas. Apparently, there was another man in need of a change too. Zimpy on the 1000 and yours truly running the 250. Okay, Mr. Ethel, I think I see where you're going with this. Count me in.
