Bear started out as a lawn and garden business selling farm equipment. The late Howard and Florence Bear were the original founders of the business and they started the business in 1948 selling Ferguson farm tractors and Oliver tractors. And then as things turned more and more urban and as the farming business was getting less and less he got into more lawn and garden equipment. My parents Cloison DeLores Cheney they my dad started working there in the mid 70s early 70s I should say and then took full ownership in 1976. So at that time I was young still in high school and there was three siblings my sister and my brother and myself and my brother and I both worked there pretty much from early on. My brother-in-law and sister they pretty much ran the lawn and garden side I ran and managed the pleurisides and then my father he retired in around the late 96-97 my mom continued on for a n As each side was growing we needed to make some decisions and finally we decided besides moving to the new location to actually split the business too. So my sister and brother-in-law they now have so ownership of Bears Lawn and Garden at corner Portage in 241 and then we opened in this location February of 2016. This year is our 50th year as a Polaris only dealership we only sell Polaris products and the brands that they represent we sell Polaris Indian motorcycle and slingshot as well as continuing to service victory motorcycles in our service department for at least the next 10 years as they have recently dissolved. We are one of the 10 oldest Polaris dealerships in the world. Our customers are what has built our brand they have been by our side through it all. Our job at Bears Power Sports as it pertains to marketing is to sell and tell what sets us apart from other dealerships. People can go to other dealerships and buy the Polaris products but when they come to our dealership we want to offer them a unique experience and that is something we tried to promote. Trustworthiness, honestness, integrity is very important to us. We've always prided ourselves on our service department we've got a lot of great mechanics that have been with us for years and years. We've got people come from all over the place to bring their machines here and get them service. If you can provide good service you have a reason for your customers to keep coming back. Events is something that we One of the programs that we started in the spring of last year was with Akron Children's Hospital they came to us and wanted to do something where we could team up together. The program that we decided was Polaris Slingshot. We have a lot of customers coming in to try to test ride those. It would just came to that we thought if someone would test drive a Polaris Slingshot which is a very new product we would donate ten dollars to the Akron Children's Hospital. Because of the knowledge that we have with the product and we're just very familiar with the product love all the stuff that we sell all of my kids have grown up around it and have been on it and now the grandkids are getting to ride it and having fun with it so definitely it helps when you're doing products that you love and enjoy and the family riding it. With that again as we look to the third generation the future is very bright for the brands and the products that we sell and with family members that are carried on to the next generations. you
