Highland Motorsport

Hello, I'm Alan Dick. I'm the setup curator here at the National Motorsport Muse Tony Quinn asked me to do this job because he learned that I've been writing about motor racing here in New Zealand since 1963 or 64. And over those years I've built up a wealth of information, books, photographs and connections with various people. So it became quite a fitting job for me in the twilight of my own personal career. And it's a job that I've really, really enjoyed. There's been twists and turns that are very pleased with the way that it's actually come together. It's often said among motor racing fans around the world that New Zealand's contribution to global motorsport has been far, far greater than its population would suggest. And that's one of the things that'so important about this muse Here at the muse That's a given. But one of the other things that I've done over all the years that I've been involved with the sport is I've collected thousands and thousands of photographs. Not all of them mine, I've got to say, but we've got about 120 very, very large photographs which are historic. And the n Those are the things that are really taking their eyes. Upstairs we have what we are calling the Hall of Fame. There are six panels on each panel, each of those panels. There are three separate panels and they all honour various people who've made major contributions to the sport here in New Zealand. These are people Along with that we've also looked at various drivers, both circuit drivers and rally drivers. One of the really important things about the Highlands National Motorsport Muse And of course the owners, if they are members of the GT Club, they will also come here at selected times and take the cars out there and have a run around the circuit. So in that way the content of the muse And in the short space of time that this has been established we've already had people knocking on the door making phone calls, sending emails, offering both cars and memorabilia. And that is really going to be an ongoing aspect of the place that it will be constantly changing and the collection will be building and changing all the time. For 30 years as a motoring journalist I travel the world attending car launches at some of the most exotic locations in the world. And I have to say that what we have here at Highlands is right up there with anything that I've ever experienced. The quality of the muse
