Mancuso is committed to providing our customers with the ultimate ownership experience. If you’ve been riding for years, or are just getting ready to fulfill your dream, we are here as your guide in your quest for the best. American Speed, the beginnings of the Mancuso PowerSports business, was founded by Houston native and Harley-Davidson® enthusiast Johnny Mancuso in 1979. Johnny had begun drag racing cars at an early age and during the 60s and 70s Mancuso built car motors were winning NHRA National events and going a long way towards satisfying Johnny’s “need for speed”. However, all that “car stuff” changed with Johnny’s first Harley Davidson, a 1972 Super Glide®, and before long he wasn’t building and drag racing his own bikes, he was building and customizing V-twins for others. He was encouraged to strike out on his own and before long he was in the motorcycle business full-time. It was during the time he operated out of his small shop in Sharpstown which was attached to his home when he first met John (JT) Thompson his partner. JT had heard of Johnny and wanted a bit more motor for his 1979 Low Rider® and Johnny was all to happy to supply the “go”. Until that first encounter, JT’s closet contact with bike building was when he “did” the motor and customized his 1948 Indian Chief in the basement of this college dorm in the mid 60’s. Johnny’s and JT’s collaboration on that Low Rider® turned into a friendly and finally a business when the two purchased a vacant Texaco gas station at 535 North Loop, did some remodeling, and relocated Johnny’s business to the freeway! Four months later, in June of 1983, the partners acquired their Harley-Davidson® franchise and by October of that year had merged the two businesses into one which was the birth of Mancuso Harley-Davidson. The team’s original location at 535 North Loop has been expanded 8 times in its 26 year history and presently sells Buell® motorcycles in addition to its mainstay, Harley-Davidson. Houston Area #One HOG, founded at this original location in 1984 remains one of the oldest and most active HOG chapters in existence with over 900 current members. In 2003, Johnny and JT opened a second location at 12710 Crossroads Park Drive in Northwest Houston. The state of art facility, some 54,000 square feet, always offer a great selection of motorcycles, parts, and accessories, Motorclothes, and is home to the premier service center in town. Additionally, the Crossroads location offers Rider’s Edge motorcycle training as well as Harley-Davidson rentals to qualified customers.
