I'm Alex Sammel, owner and operator of Detroit Moped Works. We're a brick-and-mortar repair facility here in Detroit, Michigan. We specialize in vintage two-stroke pedal-start mopeds, or as we call them, mopeds. The term moped refers to any vehicle that was built with a motor and pedals out of the factory. What you think of with our shop is going to be bikes that you pedal to start, brands A lot of people think a moped shop, how can you possibly sustain a business It's a pretty unique market. It's a little bit true, but also it works on our exceptional service and as well as our responding to customers' needs and wants and whatnot. Initially, we began completing repairs just as a hobby, and that was nice enough. People heard that were doing this and wanted to buy bikes, so we began building bikes specifically for sale. When that happened, you know, the increased demand, we ended up purchasing a facility, had all of a sudden a phone n With all these increased customers coming through here, obviously we got proper work uniforms, began selling this apparel in the shop because people asked for it. Were featured in a bit of international press, which meant international apparel requests. In order to streamline the process of selling and shipping internationally, we began an online store. Another thing that kind of happened organically We would suggest that all of our customers buy helmets and gloves to keep themselves safe, as well as locks to keep their bikes safe. Naturally, the customers asked, well, why don't So all of a sudden, we became the city's only built-well dealer, a built-well being a brand of helmets and gloves. And, When the new Tomos moped were reintroduced to the country last year, customers asked for them, so we responded by coming in dealer. And to the best of my knowledge, we are the largest Tomos dealer in the country at the moment. We do simple repairs from fixing flat tires and spring tune-ups to full-frame up custom builds. Whatever you need to make your moped ownership and riding experience complete, we do it. That full-service mantra has led to some interesting scenarios. We've filmed with Dutch doc We've sent race mopeds to New Zealand. We've gone on trips to and from Chicago on mopeds. We even teach a moped repair class right here in our shop. We've done this all with the support of our wonderful parts suppliers, as well as the moped community people. To keep this growth going, we're looking to expand it into a larger facility, increase our retail in the larger space, and, interestingly enough, make this YouTube channel a regular thing.
