Hey, I'm Kyle, your expert at UBreak iFix. Today, we're gonna talk about PS5 HDMI issues. One of the biggest things when a customer comes in and tells us that their PS5 is turned on but no picture shows, is actually the HDMI port or the cord. It's usually the biggest culprit and you can see it actually right about here. One of the biggest things that happens is there's either some bent pins or some misalignment and it's causing some shorts on the TV that's not allowing it to display the picture. Now, we have seen some situations where customers have come in and it was actually never their PS5 HDMI port at all. Instead, it was actually the TV side of things. So similar to game consoles, TVs also need their software up to date and their firmware up to date. Sometimes, if it's a little bit older, these newer game consoles won't exactly show right and that ends up being the issue too. One safe step that I always recommend a customer strive before ever bringing it to the store is actually swapping out the HDMI cord that connects to the TV. With these things, there's always one of three problems. It's either gonna be the console itself, the cord or the TV. So a really great way to figure out if this is actually the culprit is swapping out a new cord and trying that out or connecting it to a new TV and just turning it on the same way that you're always used to. One of the trickiest things about trying to repair an HDMI port both in-store and DIY is actually the fact that it's a solder repair. The more that we mess with it and the more that we actually try to go in and move it either on your own or in store, those cause really tiny fluctuations on the board. I've actually seen it to the point where a customer came in and tried to do the repair themselves and in trying to bend those pins, they've actually just tore the entire port off the board on the back end. And so by taking it in-store first, we can get in there, make sure it's done right the first time and actually go through with our microscope and our proper solder training and make sure all of that gets swapped out the first time properly rather than trying to go and find where the connection messed up along the way. The best tip I can give anyone looking to make their HDMI ports last is, well, when you're transporting it because we all know these consoles are made to sit in one spot primarily, is take the cord out of the ports before you put it in a bag. The biggest culprit of actual damaged HDMI ports is forceful pulling of the cord or transporting the console itself while it'still plugged in. It causes a lot of rattling and shaking and bending of the delicate components that are inside of the port themselves.
