The Meltdown Ice Cream Truck

Hey there, we're in Rapid City at Founders Park and we found the meltdown rolled ice cream with Nate. He's the owner. Sweet little truck here. Talk about what So we do rolled ice cream. It's a unique kind of ice cream. All of our orders start out as a liquid and we put it onto our cold plate which can sound a negative 30 degrees. We chop in our toppings as we go and it freezes and then we spread it out nice and thin and then we literally roll it off the plate and you get these adorable little rolls. Beautiful. Now how is this different would you say than sort of just typical scoop ice cream out? Yeah, so this is made to order so it's a little bit more fresh. The ingredients are fresher and then the ingredients are actually chopped up in the ice cream. So you're flavoring the ice cream rather than just topping it with the toppings. Oh, sure, sure, yeah. Now talk about your, what do you call this, the ice plate or what? We call it the cold plate usually. Is it kind of Yeah, so it's basically two little refrigerators and it sends the cool air through the coils and as you chop in the ingredients and mix it up, it's freezing the cream. So how did you come up with this idea? The internet. We thought it'd be a good idea. There's not a lot of dessert options in the food truck world in Rapid City and the food trucks are keep growing and growing. So we wanted to offer something to eat after dinner. And you mentioned that you and your dad actually built all of this setup in the trailer here. Yep, yep, we bought the trailer as just a regular enclosed trailer and then we did all the electrical, the pl Talk about the flavors you have. Yeah, so probably our most popular one would be the cookies and cream which is chopped up Oreos and then a close second would be strawberry cheesecake which is fresh strawberries and cheesecake. We also offer some cereal options so fruity pebble or cinnamon toast crunch, s'mores, chocolate brownie if you Nice. So what are people's reactions to the ice cream so far? Pretty good, they're pretty excited. It'something new that they haven't really seen before so it's pretty exciting. Now are you going to be able to be obviously your mobile but parties or are you just kind of sticking with the Founders Park? Yeah, so we tend to come out, usually once or twice a week here and then we also are available for parties so we can do birthday parties, weddings, all sorts of stuff. Oh for sure. Alright and so basically you said your ingredients are fresh, is it things Yep, so we mixed up our own ice cream base, it's a mixture of cream and different kinds of milks and sugar. So was it Yep, yeah, it took a little while, it took quite a few iterations so this is the final product and we're pretty happy with it. This is not No, not really.
