Today we are here with Ellen, the owner of Nedley's Ice Cream, a South boundary in Louisiana and Perrysburg. Nice to see you Ellen. It's good to see you too. So tell us, how long has Nedley's Ice Cream been here? We celebrate our 12th year, the middle of July, but I've been saying 12 years since January. What inspired you to get into a business Well, this place used to be Baskin Robbins and the couple that had started it here, they were here a very long time and then they sold it to another family and they only had it for a couple years and we knew this man, this gentleman, and felt comfortable that what he was telling, And so we got into this and with no experience and it's just evolved every year. So there are a few other ice cream shops around town. There's lots. What makes Nedley's unique? Well, we have a little bit of everything. We have both soft serve and I think I have absolutely delicious, super creamy, rich soft serve and I encourage everybody to come in and ask for a free sample because we got the little mini cones and I also have 48 flavors of the hand dipped ice cream, which includes the dairy-free, which a lot of people that are now vegan or people that have lactose issues and can't do dairy for their health reasons, they love the fact that we have more than one choice. I mean, we have, I think now we're up to four or five choices of the dairy-free ice cream and we do ice cream cakes and pies and we make homemade cookies. We do a little bit of everything. I know that I've sat here and enjoyed the play games while eating my ice cream. Do you encourage that? Oh yeah, I tell kids all the time, get out of the heat, come on in. I said, just don't bring in a drink from someplace else, but I love to see everybody off their phones and sit and play in a game or just hanging out and talking to each other. Do you have any other store locations? I actually run the concessions inside of Total Sports Complex, that big dome behind Meyer and so there, We only have eight choices of hand-dipped ice cream over there and we have soft serve, the chocolate vanilla soft serve and then we have, we move our slushy machine and we have hot dogs, popcorn, the pretzels. I make really good walking tacos over there. So we do a little bit of everything. If someone wants to find out more, how or where can they find out? Well, I don't have my website working anymore because I didn't know how to update it, but on Facebook, if you go under Nedley's ice cream and coffee cafe, Google will find me and you can read all the reviews and so forth, but that's the easiest way to look me up, I think. Thank you so much for talking with me today. It's my pleasure. It'so neat to. I've been watching you grow up. I've got old pictures of you playing the game. I love Nedley's where you put it out in blocks. I still have that picture. Thank you so much. My pleasure. Reporting for Paris Book Digital Media Club, this is Angela Ernstberger.
