"Making the best ice cream for the nicest people" :)
In 2002 we opened our doors as Burlington's only homegrown, local homemade ice cream shop. Ten years later, we are still going strong! We make our own super-premium, homemade ice cream at our location in Burlington, and are selling it in our new location in downtown Elon, beside Barnes and Noble bookstore. We are also the official homemade ice cream of the Elon Phoenix and the UNC Tar Heels.
I want to do just one. Amy Nockley has been scooping ice cream for customers since 2002 and she's loved every minute of it. And we've had really a wonderful ride for over 18 years doing that. Here people have come to expect an ever-evolving menu. And it's great fun to design new flavors and come up with different types of creative concoctions of course. Now there are three Smitty's homemade ice cream locations, Elon, Graham and Burlington. Each one has been successful but the pandemic, well it's created somewhat of a rocky road. It's been tough. I mean just Playing a part in Amy's decision to sell the business. And it was not an easy decision to make by any means. Now there are already several interested buyers. Kind of makes you want to take a spoon and dig into it. Someone who will carry on that passion. It's been a very emotional time. Yeah and at the same time a lot of gratitude is here that I have had the great fortune to be able to do this. And as you could imagine after nearly two decades of building a business it's hard to let it go. I think really more than anything it's about seeing the customers coming through the door because ice cream already is just the thought of it makes you smile. But once you actually have it in your hand and it's really good and it's exactly what you wanted it's that look that lights up your eyes and that One thing's for sure. Smitties has certainly made Alamance County a lot sweeter. I have had the great fortune to be able to do this and it has been an honor and a joy so I feel very blessed. Rashida Kaba Fox 8 News
