How are you all doing? Here is Corbin and I have just tried to restore my first desk to shape or whatever you want to call it. It was the first time that I did something I took an old desk, which you can see here, which was in a very, very bad condition. I bought it online and found its shape and aesthetic great. I wanted to see what you can do to turn it into a modern furniture piece. I will explain the whole process to you and show you everything, what I tried at my first try, a furniture piece to shape or restore. I learned. I hope you Period. Here is a small taste of the desk behind me. You will of course see it beforehand when we assemble it. Only to remember, so the desk was before. As you can see, it has a lot of scratches and so on. So I started with removing the tray on the desk and then thoroughly wipe it off to remove all the dust and dirt on it, because the part was pretty dirty. So we did everything clean. Now it was time to start sanding. I use a swivel and here sanding paper with 80 corners. I worked with 80 corners and then, I think, went up to 120 corners and then to 220 corners to make it as smooth as possible. If you now want to use a hand grinder or a non-slip grinder to grind the place, you can do that. But I wouldn't recommend it. It would take a long time. Some people You will later see that I actually use a grinder to get some of the depth in the wood. You will notice with these shelves that when sanding, there is still a layer of paste in the middle that is on the pattern. Therefore, I use a scissor to remove these. Here is another example, which shows a place where it would be difficult to sand, because it is booked. The scissor I use is called Citrus Strip. It can be applied very easily. I just took a brush and applied it to all areas, in which there was paste or which I could only sand hard. After all the writing drawer that you see here. After I had applied the paste, I came back with a steel wool pad, an old tooth brush and some solution tools to remove the whole Citrus Strip. I will leave a link below to all of you, what I used But it has made it much easier to remove the spot. Without it would have been very difficult and would have required a lot of sanding work by hand. You see, it gets a little sticky when you remove the spot. But here you see the difference between removing it and after, as it looks in this writing drawer. So it is very effective to remove the spot. But it can get a little dirty. Therefore I sand, if possible, but in situations After I was done with the scissor and removed the spot, I sanded the spot again with 220 sandpaper, to make it really smooth. Then I wiped off the whole saw blade and then started with the scissor. I used this dark walnut scissor, which you see up here. I And then I just take a cloth, with which I wipe over it. I would They have created a new workshop on their website in the home workshop area, which you can see here. Basically, they have a lot of different projects there, such as building a wall made of boards and laths and other things in the home workshop area. There you can find all the materials you need for the project, as well as a step-by-step guide. I will leave a link below if you want to see it. And thank you very much to Home Depot for sponsoring this video. And now back to the desk. I thought about the color of the shoe laths for a long time. But I decided to use Melting Icicle for this color. As you can see, I first rolled up the small recesses in the middle of the shoe lath and then rolled them up. I wanted that the desk is a little special. As you can see, I applied a small file on top of the shoe lath. I use the color Melting Icicle and, I think, Black Pepper Corn as a file. I just applied a little glue tape and then pulled it off again. After the first shoe lath with the little file that I glued on was really good, I decided to get very tired and decided for a crazy design, because I thought that it would look really cool. As you can see here, I just glued this little black line across the desk to give it a modern look. But you will quickly see that this is not necessarily how it turned out, as I hoped for. When I wanted to pull off the glue tape, it was somehow bleached. It was not clean at all. I had to re-lacate the shoe laths again, because it turned out so bad. As you can see here, I just painted the shoe laths white and kept it very simple. After the lath was dried, it was time to apply a layer of polyurethane. For everyone who does not know, polyurethane protects the wood and gives it a shiny finish. I could not see them right when painting, but here in the camera you can see very clearly these small stripes that I can see when the lath is created. You should avoid that. A few seconds later I actually make another bigger mistake. Basically, I noticed that when the lath was dried and I had to sand it off again and then apply polyurethane again. So it does not make the same mistake as I did. And don't overdo it. You will also notice that I keep my polyurethane in a separate container in a small cup. M. I saw a video about how to use polyurethane and the guy said that you should not use the bucket that you have for your polyurethane because it is somehow dirty or something. So if you use your polyurethane, make sure that you put it in a separate container when you press it. I thought about using the old ones for the handles, but they were no longer there and I could not really let them look modern. Even if I had painted them with spray paint. So I decided for these black, modern handles and I'm glad that I did that. Because I think they fit well to my color scheme. And now it's time to see the final result. As you may remember, it looked I'm really surprised how good it has become. And honestly, I would If you
