Hi, I'm Jeffrey Parker and welcome to the world of Jeffrey Parker interiors. Today we're taking a very special tour of Baron Geckler Antiques located on 10th Street and University Place here in New York City. Baron Geckler opened its doors in 1989 and the tradition of Baron Geckler has continued with Baron's niece, Katya Hirsch. Here at Baron Geckler they not only have 18th century antiques and 19th century antiques but over the years they have established wonderful relationships with European artists. Some of these artists have created masterful pieces of contemporary and modern furniture, mirrors, accessories, glassware and so this is a very eclectic selection of pieces available here. Come along with me now, I think you're going to find this tour really fascinating. Among the many pieces of furniture on the showroom floor today, this Jacques Adonais sideboard, which is in parchment in the art modern style circa 1940, is one of my favorites. It's parchment with gilded details and beautiful blue-site poles. This was the height of modernity in 1940 in his Justice Sheet today. It would be a beautiful focal point in any room. Baron Geckler also has a wide selection of upholstered chairs and upholstered seating. I'm sitting on this wonderful Robert Marinelli kidney shaped, funk fur upholstered sofa, which is divinely shaped. It has a lacquered wood frame with a hand-drawn ivory detailing and is available in custom sizes. Of course, juxtaposed to the contemporary upholstery and seating that they have here, they also have a pair of these beautiful Louis XVI marquee chairs circa 1780 upholstered in leather. I love the worn lacquered frame with the beautiful carving details, the pie laster. This is a classic Louis XVI model and a pair of these chairs would be gorgeous in your living room. There is an amazing array of light fittings also here at Baron Geckler, ranging from the 18th century to modern pieces that are available for commission in custom sizes. One of my favorite fittings now is this Simone Cristani Italian design light fixture, which is available in a variety of sizes, which is a combination of metal and these bubble sculptures. In this vignette, I'm standing in front of a gorgeous lacquered screen by Paul Etienne Saint. The screen was completed in 1953 in France. Once unique, while it is done in the tradition of eastern lacquer with gold and beautiful gold drawing, the screen has a slight curve all the way around. It has a firm motif border and this beautiful tree design. It's traditional and yet very modern and a very, very elegant backdrop. In front of that is from 1960 this beautiful walnut framed satin from Italy with updated upholstery with the tufted back and then this wonderful shock of turquoise blue. The screen and the Italian satin are complemented by this modern caulking table by Paula Swinney. She's a Belgian artist who fabricates in bronze. This particular piece is impatenated bronze and gilded bronze, which has a very articulated stretcher of branches, burns and leaves. It's a really beautiful heart piece. Here we have this really extraordinary Andru00e9 Sornet desk that has a bank of three drawers, is in rosewood and has Sornet'signature cloutu00e9 technique where there are little pin dots of metal in the rosewood. That creative pattern in a linear design, a completely modernist design, this desk was actually made in 1936. It would be a beautiful focal point in any library, office or workspace and very practical with a very accommodating surface. This commode is one of my favorite contemporary pieces here in Van Gaenckler. It's matte lacquer with applied cast chased bronze detailing and handles. This is a new piece and available in custom sizes. Here in front of it, it is complemented by a pair of small tables by Maison Charles circa 1970. I love the effect of these. I love the detailing of this top of the lacquer with this sort of explosive red lacquer interior. And that's all complemented by this very beautiful gilt and painted wood mirror. Here we have this wonderful combination, this console table by Simone Cristani. The console was made in 2018. What's amazing about it is the white Cororablock of stone supported by the glass rods at various angles. It's very stable and it'sort of a wake defying design which makes it very intriguing and lovely piece and it would be a great statement for any entrance. And last but not least, I'm sitting in these absolutely magical arm chairs by Aloys Valdesho. A French artist who's crafting modernist furniture. This particular pair of chairs is done in gunmetal and brass with this wonderful geometric upholstery and these chairs are extraordinarily comfortable and wildly interesting to look at. We certainly hope that you enjoyed our tour this afternoon at Baron Gekler and we look forward to seeing you very soon.
