HoW I GoT StArTeD PaInTiNg ViNtAgE: In 2006 my parents, both diagnosed with different cancers received chemotherapy treatment near an antique store that I rented a booth at. I'd pick them up, take them to the hospital, bring lunch during the day and take them home in the afternoon. We called it "Tuesday with Tammy." While they had treatment I spent the time at the antique store. I loved going "junking" at estate sales and auctions looking for treasures to sell in my tiny booth. Sadly in January 2007, mom passed away, my dad six weeks later. (I've always said dad had cancer, but he died of a broken heart). Grief stricken, I went into a funk and felt paralyzed inside. The only thing I seemed to enjoy was painting. I started with a little picture frame, painting it shabby chic and the next thing I knew, I'd painted so much furniture I had 4 booths all over Jacksonville filled to the brim! I'm a self taught artist, mixing paint, stains and waxes based on what I feel the piece needs instead of a set formula. I can "see" what a piece is going to look like finished even before I paint it, so that's why I get so excited when I come across a great piece of vintage furniture. In 2014, frustrated with the limitations milk and chalk additive paints caused, I created Vintage Furniture Paint for my furniture customers as well as the DIYer. I'm truly passionate about my work and feel blessed and thankful for all my customers and the FB peeps that support my page.
